Sanofi, the only manufacturer licensed to make H1N1 vaccine in the United States, also released its final clinical trial data, a 42-day follow-up of its adult and pediatric trials. According to this latest data, a single dose of H1N1 vaccine induces a strong immune response in adults, but two doses will be needed for children 6 months to 9 years of age.

As the new H1N1 flu virus keeps spreading, more vaccine is available to fight it, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday.

Forty-eight states are reporting widespread flu activity, two more than a week ago, Dr. Thomas R. Frieden said at the CDC’s weekly briefing.
There have been 114 pediatric deaths since April, when the H1N1 virus first emerged, with 19 reported to the CDC in the past week, he said.
Frieden also told reporters on Friday that in the past two months, more people younger than 65 have been hospitalized than would be expected in a full season of more common strains of flu.
He urged people with underlying illnesses who exhibit flu symptoms to seek medical attention promptly, saying that only half of the people in this high-risk group appear to be doing so.
To prevent getting H1N1, health officials continue to urge vaccination, and that might be becoming easier, Frieden said.
The CDC had hoped to have 40 million doses of vaccine by the end of October, but H1N1 vaccine – manufacturing delays forced them to revise that number down to 28 million.
The experts met Wednesday to review the current status of the H1N1 pandemic vaccines, including the results of clinical trials.

Statistics show that worldwide mobile phone users has reached 3 times the number of smokers. Therefore, Khurana believes that mobile phones harm more serious than cigarettes. Currently there are 500 million people worldwide die from smoking-induced disease each year.

Breaking News Federal health officials have admitted that those who need the vaccine most are pregnant women, as H1N1 vaccine clinics have started to spring up, some pregnant women are choosing to line up.
The Federal health organization have early timetable for distributing the H1N1 flu vaccine was far off the mark. They originally forecast having about 40 million doses available by the end of October. But, as of yesterday, less than half that number are ready.

“I feel like I can pass the protection on to my newborn daughter,” one expectant mother said.
To understand how dangerous the H1N1 virus can be for pregnant women, consider the case of 27-year-old Aubrey Opdyke, who is just beginning her slow recovery from a near death experience.
“I almost lost my life because of this flu,” she said. “I never thought it would happen to me.”
This past July, the South Florida mother caught what she thought was a cold. It became life threatening within days, sending her to the intensive care unit at Wellington Regional Medical Center.
Clinging to life for more than three months, she spent five weeks in a drug-induced coma, suffering collapsed lungs, kidney failure and seizures.
An occasional smoker, she had no underlying health conditions. Her biggest risk factor for H1N1? She was six months pregnant when she got sick.
Pregnancy suppresses the immune system and as the baby grows, there is less room for the lungs to expand, making breathing more difficult.
